Tanvi serves as the Treasurer and Program Strategist of Triumphant 2Gether (T2). He is also a initiated circle-keeper by the Community Justice for Youth Institute, an organization that centers the voices of at-risk youth on the Southwest side of Englewood Chicago. Prior to co-founding T2, Tanvi led Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois (TJLP) as their Project Attorney and collective/board member. Originally, he comes from the City of Vadodara in Gujarat, India. He was raised by a single mother who loved and accepted her child unconditionally. Having experienced a life with his mother, and then migrating to Chicago, IL in 2004, where he saw parents and families alienating and outcasting their own children for being LGBT was a pivotal experience for him and a call to serve his community.
Witnessing and experiencing the precarious social conditions of his transgender community, upon finishing law school, Tanvi joined TJLP to bring his knowledge and walk with his people to healing and empowerment. There, he helped more than 700 people navigate federal and state identity laws, supported the Chicago municipal ID coalition and the Chicago City Clerk’s office in creating, and implementing one of the most inclusive and responsive municipal identity program benefitting the entire City of Chicago. He has also led the impact litigation initiative to challenge the felony restriction in the Illinois Name Change Statute.
Upon resourcing TJLP, Tanvi transitioned out of TJLP to focus on T2, and his own ventures that are focused on creation and implementation of pathways for women and girls exiting violence such as human trafficking, sexual exploitation, incarceration and marginalization. His work is guided by values of restoration of individual power and healing inside out.
Tanvi earned his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from DePaul University. You can reach Tanvi at email@example.com
